BELMONT — Irish American Police Officers Association (IAPOA) President Robert Sweetland regrets to report that IAPOA founding member, vice president and retired Belmont Police Capt. Ed Rielly has passed away.
Capt. Rielly, 68, was an original member of the IAPOA when it was created in 1999, and was a 32-year member of the Belmont Police Department. He also served as a private first class in the United States Army. He retired from the Belmont Police Department in 2008.
“Ed was an invaluable and committed member of our organization from its inception, and was a dedicated police officer who made it his life’s work to serve the people of Belmont,” President Sweetland said. “His loss has deeply impacted us all, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.”
A funeral for Capt. Rielly will be held Monday, Oct. 16, at 9 a.m., at St. Joseph Parish, 130 Common St., Belmont.
